Enz Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

There is an information board in front of the source. The Große Enz rises here, fed by the Poppelbach and Kaltenbach.
The visit is a must if you are already in Gompelscheuer.

Source of the Enz

Highlight • River

The Enz, which flows into the Neckar, is created by the confluence of the Großer and Kleiner Enz near Calmbach north of Bad Wildbad. The Große Enz, in turn, is created by the confluence of the Kaltenbach and the Poppelbach near Enzklösterle-Gompelscheuer. Just a few meters next to this confluence, a small spring was found and called the Enzquelle. Such a symbolic place, if it is marked accordingly, definitely has a certain magic.

Redoute and Blochhaus on the Schramberg

Highlight • Historical Site

These complex systems belonged to the "Middle Black Forest Defense Line" and were built from 1693 during the wars of the 17th and 18th centuries as an observation system to detect and report enemy movements at an early stage. These facilities were used until about 1736.

Below was a guard room and a kitchen and above was a sleeping quarters for about 140 soldiers. At the top was a viewing and alarm window.

This is Redoute 31: "Redoubt and blockhouse on the Schramberg". The next redoubt in a northerly direction was about 5,750 m away, number 32: "Redoubt and blockhouse on the Ehlache". In a southerly direction it was 4,670 m to number 30: "Schartaque near Schwartzenberg".

Toter Mann Shelter and Rest Area

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Very nice place to rest. In the 18th century, attempts were made to improve the ore supply of existing ironworks with the advent of industrialization. In the following decades, one always discovered ore deposits, in which one drifted tunnels to mine the raw material - which was not crowned with success. The disused tunnels are called in the miner's language "dead man" and have probably given their name in the vicinity of the road tests crossroads.
