Kollergangstein Memorial for the Kurz Paper Factory

In 1859, the entrepreneurs Lizowsky and Bullinger founded a factory for packaging paper, so-called "emballage", from the waste products straw, waste paper and rags. With her, the first Ismaninger industrial company is established. In 1919 the factory became part of the "Vereinigte Papierwarenfabriken" (VP) and for a long time an important local employer. Emil Kurz, a son of the founder of VP, took over the management of the Ismaning paper mill. He moves to Ismaning with his wife and becomes a committed citizen – posthumously also an honorary citizen – of the community. The company was modernized again and again in the following decades. The chimney built in 1936 - a symbol of progress and prosperity - towered over the lower village for a long time, where many factory workers lived.

Increasing environmental regulations and the triumph of plastic packaging ultimately led to the closure of the Ismaningen plant in 1971. The plants were relocated to Feuchtwangen, where packaging papers are still manufactured today. The stone erected here (which probably incorrectly states 1981 instead of 1971 as the year of closure) is reminiscent of the old factory, of which nothing can be seen today - the former factory site is now a residential area.
