Welcome to AK Keswick! Fancy a cuppa? Feel free to take a look around the store, take out a demo bike, sit in a tent, read a magazine, or just have a natter – it’s always good to hear what you’ve been up to. With the Lakeland mountains just out the front door and Derwent just down the road, you couldn’t really ask for a better basecamp than this!

Castlerigg Stone Circle

Highlight • Monument

The actual purpose of these megalithic standing stones is hotly debated, with many theories being thrown out. There are 38 of them (but do try counting), and some of them are 10 feet (3m) tall. The origins go back some 4,000 to 5,000 years and it was classified as a protected site way back in 1888. Now it belongs to the National Trust but fortunately it is still free to visit.

There's a 360-degree view from the site so definitely worth admiring.

Great, almost traffic-free route round the quiet side of Thirlmere. Easy going on a flat road before the climb up to Dunmail Raise.
