View of Bieberstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

Bieberstein Castle is a baroque castle that sits enthroned on the 505 meter high Kugelberg and was built between 1710 and 1740. Today the castle is used as a boarding school. From the bike path you have a very nice view of the castle.

Milseburg Tunnel

Highlight • Cycleway

A great feeling to drive through the Milseburgtunnel. In summer it is a very nice refreshment. It also houses bats. From November to mid-April the tunnel is closed, but there is a four-kilometer bypass. The environmentally friendly lighting with sodium vapor lamps is also very nice.

Shortly before Wenigentaft, coming from Buttlar, the Ulstertal cycle path uses a large, blue railway bridge to cross the Ulster. Shortly behind there is a plot of land with a large mill wheel - it looks like electricity is generated here from hydropower.

The cycle path uses the route of the former Hünfeld-Wenigentaft railway line. Therefore, there are only slight inclines and you can cycle relaxed through the beautiful landscape of the Kuppenrhön.

June 19, 2025,Runde Haunetalradweg-Kegelspielradweg-Ulstertalradweg-Milseburgradweg
We decided on today's tour, starting at Götzenhof, quite spontaneously the evening before. We normally cycle the four cycle paths—Haunetal-Kegelspiel-Ulstertal and Milseburgradweg—once a year, but usually at the end of the cycling season. Both the Kegelspiel and the Milseburgradweg are two old railway cycle paths. They're always a beautiful ride and, for us, an absolute annual must.

Today we had planned a four-way cycle route.
From Götzenhof we first cycled to the Hauneradweg to Hünfeld. From there we went to the Kegelspielradweg past Burghaun for a short rest at a lovely barbecue hut near Steinbach. We had planned a coffee break in Großentaft and then stopped at the Krieg restaurant and butcher's shop. Although both were closed, …

In glorious sunshine and warm temperatures, we took the four-cycle tour, the Great Rhön Loop. The tours included the Kegelspiel, Ulstertal, Milseburg, and Haunetal cycle paths. A fantastic tour that's a must for us once a year.

No matter in which direction you take this tour, the beautiful landscape and the wonderful "downhill runs" make up for the climbs that have to be overcome first

Once again a round on the 4 cycle paths surrounding me, which would be: Haunetal cycle path, Milseburg cycle path, Ulstertal cycle path and Kegelspiel cycle path.

Today I once again cycled the 4 cycle paths: Haunetal, Milseburg, Ulstertal and Kegelspiel cycle paths. During this:
- The Rhön Wirtefest took place in Tanner town center (7th and 8th September 2024). Anyone who has been there before can understand that I had to push my bike past the stalls because of the crowds.
- There was also a …

Exactly five years ago, on May 20, 2020, I and my friend Uwe completed this 100-km bike tour through the Rhön Mountains. A good six months later, he passed away from the insidious coronavirus.

In his honor and memory, I retraced this route today.

A video of the tour can be seen here:

Today's bike tour started in Fulda Bronnzell to the Götzenhof car park where the Milseburg cycle path begins. Today we were slowed down in the first 12 kilometers of our tour. I drove a thorn into my bike shell on my front wheel. The repair took us almost 3/4 hours of time, as the casing on a mountain bike is …
