Stanage Pole

Highlight • Monument

Stanage Pole is a landmark that denotes the border between Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. A wooden pole has stood here for hundreds of years and would have been useful for travellers on the old packhorse route, Long Causeway.

Whether on gravel or MTB, the riding around here is superb. Whichever way you head, you’re in for a treat and some epic views of the Peak District.

Stanage Stone Slabs

Highlight • Cycleway

A brilliant test on a gravel bike or fairly straight forward on a mountain bike, you can choose this series of stone slabs to either climb or descend next to this gravel road on Stanage.

Look out for the lips and dips and have fun!

Redmires Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

Redmires Reservoirs are a group of three reservoirs at the eastern edge of Sheffield, fed by the Hallam Moors. The landscape around here is absolutely sublime; wild moors and gritstone escarpments with epic panoramic views. A great gravel track leads up onto Stanage and then drops you into the Peak where the options for great riding are endless.

Cooking On Gas Trail

Highlight • MTB Park

A more bermy and wider experience than Blue Steel.....different not better.

Lady Canning Trails Start

Highlight • MTB Park

Both trails here are really good runs. One is a bit longer than the other but both are a total hoot, with more than a few jumps and berm along the way. Both the trails are good for all levels from beginner to expert depending in the speed you hit them at - if you are new to the course just take your time and enjoy!

Great moorland road, ideal for riders of any ability as it is wide and generally flat (given its location). However, if you are more experienced there are some excellent sections that are a blast flat-out. It links up well with Longshaw to the east, and south onto White Edge and further onto Froggatt and Curbar Edge. It can also be a great way to head north towards Lady Cannings Plantation and down (using Jumble Road) to Blackamoor.

Burbage Valley

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

This is a beautiful valley that has great views, easy access and all weather riding. If you fancy some rock climbing this is also a very popular place to visit as there are some gnarly looking outcrops. Again this builds well into any tour of the area. Not technical for mountain biking but a fast blast and family/inexperienced rider friendly. If you ride up here you will feel like a proper mountain biker :)

View of the Burbage Valley

Highlight • Trail

Popular place to stop for a break and to admire the view. It can be impressive whether it's sunny and clear or it's overcast and brooding, seeing the weather change and the hill fog settle in.
Nice gravel trail from here down towards the Longshaw estate, populate with hikers and climbers where you can head towards Hathersage or Grindleford.
