There's no path for cyclists along the beach anymore; they have to push their bikes through the pebbles! 🥵

West Bexington Beach

Highlight • Beach

A shingle beach that stretches for miles, West Bexington is a wonderful place to visit in every season. The main draw is walking, as you can see considerable distances along the coast in both directions.

It can be a lovely spot for a dip when the sea is calm. However, note that the shingle shelves steeply almost immediately under the water, making it potentially dangerous for children and for everyone when there are waves.

Chesil Beach & The Fleet

Highlight • Beach

Author John Fowles described Chesil Beach as “an elemental place, made of sea, shingle and sky”. Backed by The Fleet, the largest tidal lagoon in Britain, this natural pebble beach extends some 17 miles (27 km) along the coast and is thought to be 4,000-7,000 years old.

Whilst it’s a great place to visit, you are strongly advised not to swim here — or even get too close to the shoreline. Even in calm conditions large waves can suddenly appear. The shoreline of the beach is very steep and this can result in a very strong undertow, which makes swimming dangerous.
