Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy (Franciscan Church), Maribor

The Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy is one of seven basilicas in Slovenia and was the first church with this title in Austria-Hungary in 1906. It is the home church of the Maribor Franciscan monastery. The current church and monastery were built between 1892 and 1900 in neo-Romanesque style and stand on the site of the former Capuchin church, which was built in the 17th century at the request of Count Jakob Khiesl of Maribor. The façade is decorated with two 58-meter-high bell towers, topped with a peaked roof and three-meter-high gilded crosses. The church has three entrances decorated with stone carvings. The most richly decorated is the main portal with a mosaic in the lunette depicting the Annunciation of Mary.

Maribor's City Castle on the north-eastern edge of the old town is the most beautiful and largest building in the city. Today it houses the Regional Museum. The castle, on the site of the castle begun in 1478 by Emperor Frederick III, was built from 1655 by Count Brandis and his successors and was continuously expanded until 1843. The clock tower dates from 1780. The castle was once the strongest fortress in the city, equipped with two courtyards, of which the one intended for the riding school is very large. Water Tower (Wasserturm) on the Drava, Maribor

The Water Tower on the Drava in Usnjarska Street received its current form in 1555. It is a late Renaissance fortress that protected the southeastern part of the city walls on the bank of the Drava. Before the Italian fortification builders reinforced the walls of Maribor in the 16th century, two round defensive towers stood on their southern part: the predecessor of the present Jewish Tower and, on the site of the present Water Tower, a round tower called Smodniški.

Reckturm (Judgement Tower), Maribor

The two-story, circular defense tower with the two-tiered brick conical roof is a defensive structure whose monumental mass protected the southwest corner of the city walls. Its angular predecessor was built in 1310, but was demolished in 1532. The Reckturm was then built between 1548 and 1562. It got its popular name as the "court tower" during the time of the witch trials: women accused of witchcraft were found guilty and sentenced here. In 1937 the tower burned down and the roof and wooden floors collapsed. Rebuilt between 1957 and 1960, the tower was completely rebuilt in 2021. Since then it has been used as a cultural center for events.
