Highlight • Monument

Thanks to the car ban, you can relax and look out over the fields at Chur's so-called "creative landmark". A new work of art has been on display since November 2024.

Chur

Highlight • Settlement

Obertor Tower, Chur
Together with the Malteser and Sennhof towers, the Obertor is one of the remaining tower structures of the medieval city fortifications. Due to its decorative appearance, the Obertor soon became a landmark of Chur. The four-storey building, which becomes narrower towards the top, fits into the settlement structure modeled on the city wall, but at the same time visually stands out from this row of buildings thanks to its bright exterior. The paintings in the archway date from the 20th century, some of them based on old city views.

Old Town and St. Martin's Church, Chur

Highlight • Historical Site

Chur is the oldest city in Switzerland with a settlement history of over 5,000 years. The historic old town is well worth seeing and completely car-free. It offers an astonishingly large range of cultural offers, shopping opportunities, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Chur has one of the most intact old towns in Switzerland. It has been continuously restored over the past 20 years and is now practically entirely traffic-free. The old town is often the setting for colorful markets, for example every Saturday morning from May to October is the weekly market (farmers' market) and the traditional Christmas market takes place at the end of the year.

Reformed Church Langwies

Highlight • Religious Site

Reformed Church Langwies
The church, originally dedicated to Mary, dates back to a high medieval foundation by Hans Mattlis, known as Pregenzer, in 1384. The church was consecrated in 1385, as was the consecration of the altar, which was dedicated to Catherine of Alexandria.
In 1475, Langwies separated from the mother church in St. Peter and became an independent parish. Arosa separated from this in 1492/93 and built its own mountain church.
The oldest building structure of the tower and the single-aisled nave date from the time of the church's consecration. The choir was rebuilt in 1477. In 1488, Steffan Klain and Andreas Bühler provided the nave and choir with a late Gothic vault.
In 1530, Langwies was the first parish in Schanfigg to adopt the Reformation through the preacher Philipp Gallicius.
In 1917, wall paintings from the end of the 14th century were uncovered on the north wall of the nave, including motifs from the Passion of Jesus Christ. A late Gothic baptismal font with a lid from 1751 forms the center of the church interior. The wooden pulpit dates back to 1751.

Obersee

Highlight • Lake

There is a path that leads completely around the lake. You will also find beautiful meadows and cozy benches to relax on the shore. A break at the lake is definitely worth it, if only because of the wonderful view of the water and the mountains.
