Marstal Maritime Museum

Highlight • Historical Site

At the eastern end of the island lies Marstal, the largest city of Ærø. Maritime history has been and still is written here today, because in no other Danish town is seafaring at the center of life as in this city.
For centuries, ships from Marstal were on the oceans of the world to carry on lively trade. Of course, it is not surprising that many objects from the furthest corners of this earth have found their way here.
Be sure to visit Marstal Maritime Museum for the opportunity to marvel at an incredible variety of exhibits. In addition, there is a shipyard in the outer area and of course the harbor itself with its long tradition.
To date, the nearby Nautical School is also active here, the officers are trained for the Danish merchant fleet.
The maritime museum in Marstal is of course located in the harbor area of the city and shows in a very extensive collection the development of various types of ships ranging from historic windjammers to the modern motor vessels.
For explanations in texts are about 250 model ships in all sizes, several hundred paintings of ships and bottles ships. Anyone who is interested and also understands something of it needs almost a whole day just for this part of the collection.

Colorful Bathhouses at Eriks Hale

Highlight • Structure

People enjoy life while the midsummer fire burns or the easter eggs are cooked and rolled - and the sun disappears into the horizon.

You can find the beach houses in two places on Ærø: near Erikshale in Marstal and Vesterstrand in Ærøskøbing.

In both places, the houses are beautiful, unmistakable and maintained to the smallest detail.

The land - on which the beach houses are built - is rented indefinitely. And the clauses are strict: no extensions and no installation of electricity or water.

Everything should stay as it was - only moderate improvements are allowed.

Time stands still at Vesterstrand and Erikshale when the Danish flag Dannebrog is hoisted. The smell of roses fills the air and the calm water of the bay is ready for a bath - and everything is just like in the last 100 years.

Located a little out of town near the marina and surrounded by two types of sea on each side of the campsite. Erikshale is a headland; On the one hand you can bathe in the 'Lille Hav', a kind of bay with shallow, calm and pleasantly balmy waters between the sports harbor and the beach. On the other side, the Baltic Sea is fresh and lively. Here you will also find plenty of the characteristic bathhouses of old ones times.
