Ochtum Lowlands Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural

Very beautiful view over the meadows. Many of the meadows are located within nature reserves and are therefore a refuge for plants and animals.

To enable everyone to observe these special habitats and their birdlife, the city's Hanseatic Nature Development GmbH (haneg) has now renovated an aging observation tower. The new building features a unique shape, which was implemented by the company baumrausch. "A tower for observing courting and breeding birds, located at the Liebesecke (love corner), had to be designed like a bird's nest," says its managing director, Volker Kranz, about the planning concept.

The total cost of the new observation tower amounts to approximately €90,000 and was raised from project funds from the federal government and the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science. "For me, this is money well spent, because this is a place where people and nature conservation come together. Incidentally, it's a mutual benefit. Seeing, experiencing, and protecting nature is good for the soul. Anyone who has ever observed lapwings, gadwalls, wigeons, and all the other birds here is enchanted. Anyone who has seen the geese flying in here in large flocks to roost for the night is impressed. I hope that many Bremen residents will fall in love with the Ochtum lowlands here in the Liebesecke."

Information boards on the tower provide detailed information about the observation opportunities on site. Arriving by bike is recommended, as parking is limited.
