Lahn Bridge (Marble Bridge), Villmar

Highlight • Bridge

A little note about the Villmar "marble bridge" 😎
The term “Lahn marble” is actually incorrect. Because the stone is not marble, but limestone !!!
Marble is formed when limestone is exposed to extremely high pressures and temperatures during ore formation. This was not the case with the reef in Villmar.
The term “Lahn marble” is practically just a commercial term.

The Konig Konrad monument is dedicated to the German King Konrad I (911-918), who gave the crown to Henry of Saxony. Built in 1894, the monument stands on the rock Bodenstein above the river Lahn near Villmar.

Konrad is considered the first German king. At his death in Weilburg on December 23, 918, he caused with the Weilburg will his brother Eberhard to renounce the throne and the transfer of royal insignia to the Saxon Duke Henry.

Made of Belgian sandstone, 2.32 meters high statue stands on a pedestal from Lahnmarmor. Originally the monument was surrounded by a wrought-iron lattice. The statue shows the king in the gesture of Kronübergabe. The inscription on the pedestal reads: Konrad I, 911-918, German king and count of the Lahngau transferred in faithful care for the realm security and power dying Heinrich of Saxonia crown and rule. The monument is a symbol of the district and a reference to imperial history in the 19th century.

July 28, 2024,WR 24/24 - Geführte Wanderung W13 König Konrad, Unica und das Empire State Building von Rainer Lemmer ab/bis Villmar - 12,2 km am 28.07.2024
Today, together with my mother, I took part in the hike led by Rainer Lemmer. Rainer Lemmer is also known under the pseudonym "typisch-westerwald". The meeting point and start was at 10 a.m. at the Lahn Marble Museum in Villmar.

This morning it was only supposed to be a small gathering, as we had arranged to meet up for dinner with friends from a cruise today. Actually it would have been a very nice tour if it hadn't been pouring at the beginning 🌧️. About 2 km before the end of the tour the 🌞 appeared briefly 🤣. No matter …

Via the Lahn hiking trail from Villmar to the Altstadt Café in Runkel. @Klaus - ÖPNV , I can only confirm your recommendation ☕️🍰. 👍😋 I definitely didn't sit there for the last time. 😇
Nice way back to Villmar along the Lahn, through the Ansbachtal and via the Lahnhöhenweg. Absolutely worth seeing 👀 in the Lahn marble stronghold of …

A circular hike between Villmar and Runkel. You cross two marble bridges and are mostly "alone" in nature.
Due to DB track work, you cannot unfortunately use the train or park at the station.
There are some parking spaces in the side streets or at the Konrad Hall.

A beautiful circular tour from Runkel to Villmar and back with great views of the Lahn. Beautiful, wild and romantic paths with a good variety of fields and forests. Runkel Castle is a must. Tip for a stop of the day: After the hike to Wiesengiggel in Weyer.

Always a beautiful route. Especially the section crossing the L 3063 up to km 6.8. I always find it so beautiful. It runs along a small stream, which occasionally runs over the trail. A relatively narrow section, but easy to walk. The scenery is very charming.

Today I hiked the Lahn hiking trail between Villmar and Runkel again. Always a beautiful route with fantastic views. I really have to visit Runkel Castle sometime soon, though. It's actually a no-brainer, right on my doorstep, and I haven't been inside yet.

Today I was able to take over my own castle for a fee of 5 thalers (€). The view from the tower is phenomenal. The safest room is of course the torture chamber, as it can be locked 😜 the paths on both sides of the Lahn are also excellently signposted. 👍🏼
