Arran Distillery has been producing fine single malt Scotch whisky since 1994. Starting life as rainwater falling in Loch Na Davie in the hills high above the distillery, and flavoured by the earth and rock, the Scotch produced here is hailed as a “taste of the island”. There is a shop and cafe and you can visit the distillery to find out more about the process. For more information, visit: arranwhisky.com.

Lochranza Castle

Highlight • Castle

Lochranza is the most northerly village on the Isle of Arran and is located on the northwest end of the island. The village is said to have the fewest hours of sunshine of any village in the UK. It is also reputed that it is the most shaded village in the world due it lieing in a northern facing glen with a particularly high quantity of rainfall. Best to visit on a summers day!

With a population of only 200, wildlife flourishes on the island. Around Lochranza castle you are likely to spot red deer and on the north shore there are grey seals year round. Otters and golden eagles are also regularly seen in the area.

The Arran distillery is based in Lochranza, producing Arran Single Malt. Along with tourism the distillery is one of the main industries on the island. At the Lochranza hotel there is said to be one of the largest collections of Scotch Whiskey in the country, with more than 350 different drams to try! Lochranza castle is a beautiful ruin of a 16th century castle with an interesting history. In 1614 it was taken over by the king and used by Oliver Cromwell!
