Painted Hills

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Painted Hills Trail starts by passing through the Painted Hills Neighborhood. The entirety of the trail travels on a tight singletrack trail. There are hilly sections at times, but most of the gain and loss is found if you decide to pass through the gate halfway to Triple Tree from the Painted Hills Trailhead.

Triple Tree Trail

Highlight • Trail

Triple Tree Trail is a running, hiking, and biking trail loop in the southern suburbs of Bozeman. This is a super popular recreational area, and it's common that you'll see a lot of people on the trail. Most of the trail is forested, and you are greeted with views with a bench on the bald summit. The lookout is pointed towards Bozeman and the Bridger Range and doesn't really offer any shade.

Highland Glen Trailhead

Highlight • Trail

Commonly referred to as the "Cow Trails," the Highland Glen Nature Preserve has a network of single track and double track trails that are open to biking, running, and hiking. In the winter, this is a cross country ski area.

The trails get their nickname from the herd of cows that lives in the preserve. Make sure to always close and latch any gates that you go through!

Gallagator Trailhead

Highlight • Trail

The Gallagator Trail is a heavily used crushed gravel commuter trail in Bozeman. It attaches to many other commuter trails and walking/biking trails, and it has multiple official trailheads. There are a lot of trees and vines along the trail so it stays primarily shaded, and there is a creek that runs next to it nearly the entire length of the trail.

Pete's Hill Lookout, Burke Park

Highlight • Viewpoint

Burke Park is a dirt and crushed gravel trail system on a small mesa on the east side of Bozeman. The mesa provides a vantage point with views of several mountain ranges circling around the city, and there is plenty of open space for dogs and kids to run around (though there are signs asking users to control dogs with a leash). The trails range from wide, road width trails to singletrack, but the vertical gain and loss on the park trails is minimal.

Pete's Hill is the name of the lookout point with benches on the most northern side of the park. This is a popular park for lots of different trail users, and it's likely you'll encounter others out on a hike.
