Bushel mill

Highlight • Historical Site

The name only came up in the 15th century when the Schöffel family ran the mill. At that time there was a regulation that Höfingen customers had priority over foreigners. The mill has been owned by the Sailer family since 1904 and was in operation until 1967. Today there is a ceramic and a sculptor's studio in the mill building.

Old town hall

Highlight • Settlement

The high-gabled old town hall from the late Middle Ages was built between 1460 and 1480 as “the citizen's house”. It served as the seat of the city administration and the court, as a department store, dance floor and fruit floor. The “white gold” was stored under the Renaissance gable of the salt house. In the 19th century, the Fruchtboden was also a laundry drying area and gym for the first Leonberger gymnastics club. For the city's anniversary in 1998, the old town hall was restored true to the original.

The beautifully renovated half-timbered houses around the market square are fascinating.
The large fountain does the rest. In addition, in summer the outdoor restaurants liven up the market square

Kepler House

Highlight • Historical Site

The famous astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler lived here with his parents as a child until 1579. As his son wrote, his parents had "a marriage full of strife." His father, Heinrich, repeatedly ran away and joined the army. His mother was later accused of being a witch. But the future astronomer was able to attend Latin school here, thanks to compulsory schooling. Later, he was even allowed to study at the Duke's expense. To defend his mother, he returned to Leonberg as a grown man. At the time, he was the Imperial Mathematician.

I was inspired to do this hike some time ago by @Kristian. I recently rediscovered it in the "Hiking in Leonberg" flyer. And today I finally made it!

After three wonderful weeks of vacation in three different regions, I took advantage of the beautiful late summer weather for a ride back home. During my absence, a number of pipes were laid in the Glemstal valley, the function of which is still unclear.

While the little snow that fell today has not completely melted away, a short walk through the Glemstal.

Originally, something special was planned for the 1,400-mile tour with Komoot, but the rainy weather forced a change of plans. So it was just a standard loop through the Glems Valley. At least the Glems finally had more water than it had in a long time. And to top it all off, there was even some water coming from above.

The unpleasant season is slowly approaching, when it takes some courage to go outside. But no matter, I put on my rain jacket and ran the standard loop through the Glemstal valley counterclockwise. Despite dramatic cloud formations, fortunately, no rain fell, and the gullies in the Glemstal valley have disappeared again.

Today 🙍🙍🏼‍♂️for the first time running in Leonberg🥾. From the train station we headed downhill and into the Glems Valley, passing meadows, a pond with a little frog concert 🐸and a few former mills. There were also two rest areas 🍇🎒🧃 along the way. Shade and sun alternated. We ran along the Glems 🌊 and the 🌊 Wäschebach, past the …
