Roman Catholic Maria Virgo Regina Church

Since the Reformation, there had been no Roman Catholic church in Bennekom. After the Second World War, Bennekom experienced growth, which also led to an increase in the number of Roman Catholics from outside the country. In 1947, Pastor Eppink of the Ede-Zuid parish decided to establish a satellite station in Bennekom. In 1954, Chaplain Lutz of the Eusebius parish in Arnhem was appointed construction pastor. The parish in Elst found him willing to cover the majority of the construction costs. On a purchased plot of land on Heelsumseweg, the foundation stone for the new church was laid on March 10, 1957. The total construction costs were estimated at 224,600 guilders. On November 3, 1957, the church was dedicated to Mary Virgo Regina, the first church in the Netherlands. This was in response to the encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam issued by Pope Pius XII in 1954, in which the liturgical memory of Queen Mary was established. Since January 1, 2010, the Maria Virgo Regina Church has been a religious community within the parish of St. Titus Brandsma. Source and more information: Wikipedia.org
