Starý Most (Old Bridge)

Highlight • Bridge

Until 2013, the Old Bridge was a steel structure from the Second World War, the remains of an unused railway line, a narrow wooden footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists. And in the middle, a dismantled bridge over which cars and buses once drove. At the beginning of December 2013, the capital closed the bridge for good, and the construction of a completely new one began. Today, a new, green bridge stands in its place. It is used for tram, bicycle and pedestrian transport. It offers beautiful views of the Danube, Bratislava Castle and the Old Town. Despite the new construction, the name remains: "Starý most".

The Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising (Slovak officially Most SNP, short for Most Slovenského národného povstania, from 1993 to August 29, 2012 officially Nový most - New Bridge) in Bratislava is one between 1967 and 1972 according to a design by Arpád Tesár (civil engineer), Jan Lacko (architect) and Ivan Slameň (architect) built the road bridge over the Danube, which bears the name after the 1944 Slovak National Uprising. It is the best known of the five Danube bridges in the city.

A special attraction is the tower restaurant in UFO or ship form located at 80 meters height on the 84.6 meter high pylon of the bridge. The restaurant, opened in 1974, was formerly called Bystrica, but was closed in 2003 and reopened on 15 June 2005 under the name Ufo. An elevator in the left pillar (seen from the north) leads to the restaurant, which offers a good view of the city. Above the restaurant there is another vantage point 95 meters high. The right pillar has an emergency staircase with 430 steps. On June 16, 2013, the Ufo Vertical Sprint held its first flight of stairs, one of the Masters races in the Treppenlauf World Cup.
