According to the archival sources, there had been plans since 1696 to build a water mill on the upper reaches of the Sorge, which under the name Stente forms the only outflow from the Bistensee and carried sufficient water for year-round mill operation. The through traffic on the old road connection from Rendsburg to Schleswig made it possible to set up an extensive inn, which was also frequented by many day-trippers because of its charming location. Another line of business at Stenten-Mühle was an intensive fish farm. 1854 Sale of the mill to the hereditary tenant Catharina Bahr. The sale of the mill had to be reversed because the mill was no longer compulsory. Carstens became the new tenant. From 1860 to 1896 August Weinholdt acquired the property as the new owner.
