There is a fabulous view down Fryton Lane to the hamlet of Fryton from here, but what of course grabs the attention is dozens of miles of the English countryside here: miles and miles and miles of a view to the distant hills on the horizon. The poetry is not all in Switzerland, you know!

Streamside Singletrack in Howardian Hills

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Excellent single track, nothing technical, just flowy and peaceful. Only ridden on a weekday, not sure how peaceful it'll be on a weekend.
Enjoy!

All Saints Church, Hovingham

Highlight • Historical Site

All Saints Church was rebuilt in 1860 by Marcus Worsley, except for the Anglo-Saxon tower, which was retained. It is believed that the tower dates back to just before 1066, around the time of the Battle of Hastings, of course.

Inside the church, you will see how the Gothic of the nave contrasts with the unfaced stonework of the Saxon tower and its masonry.

Well worth the visit!

Ebor Way: Cawton to Hovingham

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A great segment on Ebor Way across the countryside west of Hovingham. Wide tracks, rolling hills (Hovingham High Wood on the slopes to the south) and green fields (best in the summer), and almost immediate peace out of the villages of Hovingham and Cawton. If you’re of that kind of temperament and you find yourself here at sunset, you’ll reacquaint yourself with your inner poet.

Barugh Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

There are some nice flat roads around here in the Vale of Pickering which provide some welcome respite to the hilly North York Moors and Howardian Hills. This gives rise to some nice open skies and farmland views. Fields of rapeseed in late spring create a gorgeous blanket of colour.
