Obere Mühle (Siebenmühlental)

The Upper Mill is the first mill in the Siebenmühlental valley. The mill was first documented in 1383 as the Mohrenmühle (Moor Mill). The Mohr family owned and gave it its name for over 200 years. It may have originated with a castle on the opposite side of the valley that no longer exists. It then passed into the possession of various Stuttgart families, which in turn led to name changes. In the 17th century, it was therefore called the "Laxenmühle" (Laxen Mill). A coat of arms stone above the entrance still commemorates this. Since the 18th century, the mill has been called the "Obere Mühle" (Upper Mill). After a fire, the mill was rebuilt as it can still be seen today. The Upper Mill is one of the few solid-construction mills and has a high hipped roof. At the beginning of the 20th century, the mill ceased operations and was used as a sawmill. It was plundered in 1945. After the Second World War, the mill was used for agricultural purposes.
