Berg Sion Convent

Highlight • Religious Site

The name derives from the name Zion for the city of Jerusalem. Uetliburg has been a pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages due to its location on the pilgrimage route to Maria Bildstein and Einsiedeln. 1761 was founded by the initiative of the priest Josef Helg (1721-1787). Berg Sion is the only monastery of the Premonstratensian order in Switzerland that is still operated as such.
Large, still operated women's monastery, founded in 1761. Late Baroque, partly Rococo.

Vorder Höhi Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Sensationally located, very close to Amden, but also easily accessible from Toggenburg. And yes, there is a panoramic view in all directions. Very friendly alpine farmers!

Departure with this group on the main road to Weesen. But there is also a direct, almost in the fall line down leading MTB trail (gravel), sometimes steep, which opens at the last Serpentine in the main road. The path is signaled and branches off in the middle of the village Amden (past the church, Gerenstrasse)

June 26, 2021,Von Ziegelbrücke über Amden ins Toggenburg und über Ricken zurück
So now I know how far my Bosch 625 W will carry me. But I had to divide most of the time with ECO and at one point I had to wear my climbing chamois. As a non-Toggenburger, I paid the hardship. But it was a nice tour even though I couldn't drive directly from Amden to Stein. Was still …

Everything went as planned up to Krummenau: first a nice climb to Amden with a wonderful view of Lake Walen. Then further up to Vorder Höhi. Temperatures are obviously rising. Some cooling during the descent to Starkenbach.
Then along the Thur, some trails/hiking paths, some nicely shaded in the forest.
