Once completed, this connection, planned in the 1930s based on the model of the German Alpine Road, was intended to connect the Zittau region - via the low mountain ranges to the east - with Opava (Troppau) in the east of the Czech Republic. The main aim of this was to improve the accessibility of tourist locations for travelers from large cities such as Dresden and Berlin.
