Apor Spring No. 3

Highlight • Natural Monument

Apor Spring is a general purpose spring in Băile Tuşnad resort, located in a decorative pavilion. The spring water is carbonated and salty. It also contains iron, potassium and calcium. The water temperature is 19.9C.

Mikes Mineral Spring No. 4

Highlight • Natural Monument

It is located a few meters from the Apor spring, with the same characteristics of the deposit. It is a chlorosodium, carbonated, boric, ferruginous water, brought through a pipe to a vat.

The 3g/l mineralization is lower and has in its composition several elements, predominates Cl, bicarbonates, Ca, CO2. The gases dissolved in water have 95.5% CO2 and 3.35% N.

It has a temperature of 15-16C, a lower flow rate and a slight radioactivity. It is said to have several health benefits, that however can not be scientifically proven.

Ascension of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, Băile Tușnad

Highlight • Religious Site

The Orthodox Church in Băile Tușnad, adorned with paintings both inside and outside, is a copy of the beautiful Voroneț monastery, or, as the parish priest Constantin Gane calls it, “Voronețul Ardelean”.

The architectural style is the Byzantine one, in the shape of a cross (trefoil) with three apses, one central, the altar, and two lateral ones, pews, and the central dome being supported on a reinforced concrete pendant. The porch is executed in Brancovenesc style, open, with columns made of solid stone artistically carved in the shape of a woven rope.

Ciucaș Lake

Highlight • Lake

At an altitude of 640 meters, the lake was artificially created for tourist purposes. Its existence is due to the water of the Olt River, the main watercourse of Băile Tuşnad resort. Ciucaş Lake was established between 1882-1893. Over the years, the lake has enjoyed important redevelopment, including a new swimming pool.

However the water quality is not as good as it used to be, since the inflow of the river Olt was cut off. In the 20th century it used to be a leisure and bathing spot for locals and tourists. After a repurpose some years ago it is not open for swimming anymore. Today it is plagued with algae growth and the ruins of a construction development in the middle of the lake.

Falcon Stone Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Falcon Stone Nature Reserve (1 ha) is located near the town Tusnad Spa and this area belongs to the volcanic chain of South Harghita and it is located on the east slope of the Piliske volcanic cone (858 m) with tower-shaped andesite protrusions which rise 50-60 meter above the surface. The vegetation is formed from deciduous and coniferous trees too. One of the most representative protected plant of the reserve is the Hawkweed specie (Hieracium telekianum), which is a local endemism. You can read informations about the flora, fauna, geology and all the features of the area if you visit the nature trail of the reserve.

The route contains 13 information boards along the route to inform about the location, flora and fauna.
