Like many other lakes in the five-lake region, the Maisinger See was formed towards the end of the ice age due to the thrust of the Isar-Loisach glacier. Lake 1450 is mentioned for the first time in the Salbuch of the regional court in Pähl: item of Lake Mawsingen belongs to Starnbergk. This shows that the lake was subordinate to the Starnberg box office and was therefore owned by the Bavarian sovereign. In 1602, on the other hand, the water must have belonged to the possessions of the Dießen monastery, because according to the records there, the provost of the monastery had leased it to the Seehieter zu Meising.
