Harilaid Trailhead Information Board

Highlight • Rest Area

The parking lot for the hiking trail goes off road 78 with a Hariland sign. Direction Köruse and riding stables. Initially paved, then about 6 km worst gravel road to the parking lot. In the east of the parking lot there is a beautiful bathing beach - in the west there are jellyfish in the sea. The hiking trail is often in deep sand, as many people walk the trail or cycle to the lighthouse (bike rental in summer at the parking lot). Since this path is very strenuous to walk, people switch to the more solid environment (on foot and by bike). There sand pioneer plants are to begin to consolidate the ground. These places are destroyed, the path becomes wider and more sandy. So this nature reserve is ruined by people visiting it. As in Soomaa NP, the national park administration should build boardwalks at these points in order to protect nature and regulate people's paths!
The hike is otherwise varied and exciting. Depending on the season, more or less birds can be observed.

In the middle of nature - and just the right place to take a breather on a hike. This idyllic picnic spot, hidden between trees, offers you the perfect opportunity to take a break and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings. A small hut equipped with everything you need for a cozy picnic: a grill, wooden benches and a well-stocked wood storage area. The axe and saw are hanging ready in case you want to lend a hand to prepare firewood yourself.

The light scent of pine trees is in the air and the view of the surrounding trees gives a feeling of seclusion that quickly makes you forget the stress of everyday life. If you have brought your own food, this place is ideal for a cozy barbecue or just to relax for a while in the shade of the trees.

This bathing spot is a very special place to linger. The water is so clear that you can see the colorful pebbles on the bottom. There is something calming about the gentle waves rolling onto the shore and the stones clattering quietly. It is an ideal place to dip your feet in the cool water after a hike or maybe even plunge into the refreshing water.

The access to the water is gentle and the shore is covered with smooth stones that shimmer in all kinds of colors. Here you can enjoy the silence of nature in a special way - far away from the hustle and bustle and in the midst of the peace of this idyllic setting.

A place like this is perfect for a break to unwind before continuing on the hiking trail.

A small shipwreck from days gone by

On my hike through the remote dune landscapes, I discovered this abandoned boat that is slowly being reclaimed by nature. It lies in the middle of the sand, surrounded by birch and pine trees, and tells a silent story of times gone by. The rusty hull, now overgrown with plants, almost seems like a memorial to the power of nature, which is reclaiming its space bit by bit.

The surroundings are quiet, apart from the occasional rustling of leaves and the wind blowing through the dunes. It is a perfect place to stop, take in the atmosphere and enjoy a moment of peace. The information board nearby offers interesting details about the flora of the area and the importance of the place during the Soviet era.

This unexpected discovery on my hike made the route special - a small adventure that connected me more deeply with the history and nature of the region.
