Since 1844 there has been a wooden pier on the west pier at the mouth of the Uecker, with a silver-plated parabolic mirror and a single-wick kerosene lamp, which was rebuilt or renewed three times until 1903.

When the old beacon was dismantled in 2000, the lantern was initially stored on the Dänholm at the WSA Stralsund building yard.

Today this maritime monument is located on the new premises of the Waterways and Shipping Administration in Stralsund on Wamper Weg and is often used by WSA employees as a smoking shelter in rainy weather.

While Ueckermünde may not be as prominent as the more well-known Baltic Sea resorts and is "only" located on the Oder Lagoon, it exudes a maritime flair and certainly has nothing to hide as a seaside resort and port city.
