Bollenberg chapel

Highlight • Other

The Bollenberg chapel, also called the Sainte-Appolonia chapel or the Witches' chapel (here “Haksekapel”),
sits on a rocky outcrop of Jurassic limestone, reaching an altitude of 363 meters among vineyards.
The current chapel dates only from the 19th century. But the site is old. It’s probably from “Belen”,
the Celtic god of fire associated with pastoral life, named after him from Bollenberg.
The chapel is oriented with a 3-sided chevet pierced with 2 occuli. A large wooden cross dominates the roof, visible from afar.
The nave is lit by the ogival glass door protected by a grid.
Inside, we see a large grid separating the nave from the choir where a large cross dominates the altar.

Witches' chapel on the Bollenberg

Highlight • Religious Site

It is believed that in ancient times the magic hill was dedicated to the Celtic god Belen and Belenberg became Bollenberg. Sun cults were held. The first cult is dated to 575 BC. dated. The old place of sacrifice is located directly under the witches' chapel, called Chapelle des Sorciers. The Bollenberg is a mysterious mountain with rare flora.
