Evangelical Church of St. Mary, Silvaplana
Highlight • Religious Site
The church was first documented in 1356, but the building materials of a Romanesque predecessor from the 11th century have been identified. In 1491, in the pre-Reformation period, structural changes were made in the late Gothic style, including the addition of a higher tower. Its pointed roof, however, is more recent and was added in 1906.
Inside the church, on the north wall of the nave, there are wall paintings (including of Mary Magdalene) from an Italian art school from around 1500. The wood-carved pulpit dates from 1740, and the neo-Gothic framed organ from 1900.
