Trudenstein (HWN 17)

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Trudenstein is still below the Hohnekamm and is included in the system of the Harzer hiking nobility with the number 17. Even if not so high; the view is still great and a bit of climbing is also necessary.

A steep, partly rocky path leads between Trudenstein and Hohnekamm. Sturdy shoes are recommended.

April 18, 2025,Trudenstein (HWN 17) – Leistenklippe (HWN 15) Runde von Schierke
the Harz.. This time in Schierke I got again.. hiking pins 🤩

A great tour, but one that requires a lot of stamina. You also need to be sure-footed, as the path is rocky. In sunny weather it can get very warm, as the spruce trees can no longer provide shade. There are 2 HWN stamps on the way.

Unfortunately, the trees were completely clear-cut. I've never seen the Harz Mountains this bad before. The hike was still beautiful! Great views from the Leisteklippe and small, pleasant paths in the middle section.

Even if it is not immediately apparent in the pictures, it rained from the first to the last minute of the tour, phew, especially on the Hohnekamm there were some deeper water holes that you could only get past by doing a daring split 😅

Very nice hike. Here you can see impressively how the forest recovers after the trees die. The young spruces are dense, the path meanders rocky through. In between there are always cliffs that can be climbed via ladders and offer great views. A few areas with dead wood are also traversed, very vividly.

We start from the parking lot in Schierke and hike up to the narrow-gauge railway station. In sight we can already see the striking rock of the Feuerklippe, also known to many others from the label on the bottle of Schierker Feuerstein. Over granite stones and roots, past dead spruce trees and bare mountain tops, you continue to the Trudenstein …

From here we are up to the Schierke train station. The station, which is 687 meters high, was opened on June 20, 1898 and has been in constant use as a station ever since. After crossing the tracks, we are then up to the Trudenstein stamping point HWN 17, the rocks are around 735 …

The tour is amazingly beautiful if you can ignore the dying trees... this is certainly easier for us "also newcomers" than for tourists
