La Hoya Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

Without water there is no life
That's the source of La Hoya, one of the main reasons why the
first settlement of San Miguel de Abona was built.
The water emerging naturally from the rocks of the mountain face, combined with a passing path - one like the one you are standing on - provided a strategically excellent place for the passing people with their animals and goods.
If you look closely, you will discover hollows carved by hand into the light tuff on the mountainside to catch the water.
The hollows in the middle height provided people with drinking water and those close to the ground were drinking troughs for the animals.
The favorable location of the La Hoya spring meant that it became an impromptu meeting place for people, because it was here that people passing by would rest and recharge their batteries.
Even if it is difficult for us to imagine, there was a constant coming and going on this path, which is so contemplative, lonely and quiet today

A light warm wind and overcast sky were the ideal conditions for this hike today. The view from the Mirador is wonderful and the food in the bodega in San Miguel is great 👍

A beautiful circular tour that is always enjoyable - this time again with a detour to the Mirador de La Centinela, which offers wonderful views.

Light wind and a predominantly cloudy sky accompany our hike today. This standard hike with a stop at the bodega in San Miguel is a regular part of our program.

Low-hanging clouds, hardly any wind... the decision for the Aldea Blanca/San Miguel loop was exactly right for today: started hiking around noon and only got a few drops of rain around San Miguel. The detour to the Mirador de La Centinela is definitely worthwhile due to the panoramic view, but today, at least on the way up the hiking trail, …

Unfortunately it was cloudy today, but the bodega in San Miguel was yummy again

Showing Translation

Ideal conditions with sun and light wind. The bodega in San Miguel is simply a must.

A historically interesting circular walk, which, in addition to the well-signposted paths, provides a lot of information through information boards. The detour to the Mirador de la Centinela is very worthwhile, there is a fantastic view (although somewhat limited today). The restaurant up there has probably not been open for a long time.

With light wind and cloudy weather, the conditions were ideal for hiking today.
