View of the Malvern Hills from Oyster Hill

Highlight • Trail

Coddington is a wonderfully situated village close to the Malvern Hills AONB. It is an archetypal Herefordshire village, with black and white timber-framed buildings and rolling farmland.

It sits just below Oyster Hill, an invigorating walk that rewards with excellent views of the nearby ridge of the Malverns: a range which represents the finest hillwalking in the area.

All Saints Church, Coddington

Highlight • Religious Site

All Saints church, Coddington, set high on it's hill, catching the light from the setting sun. Delightful place with a terrific aspect, surrounded by wonderful mature Yew Trees.

Highlight • Structure

The famous vineyard at Coddington, not very big but beautifully formed. On a south facing slope amidst wonderful Herefordshire countryside, and the wines make here are good too - of a German type.

Hope End Walled Garden

The Estate at Hope End has sadly been broken up, but some of the main buildings are still there and they all seem to be called Hope End! This house with it's walled garden and backdrop of trees is particularly fine, especially when it catches the afternoon autumn light.

Highlight • Historical Site

The main house at Hope End can only be glimpsed through the trees, but as can be seen it is set in fine parkland on the eastern slopes of Oyster Hill. It was recently a hotel, but now closed.

Oyster Hill

Highlight • Viewpoint

Rising to 702 feet (214 m) above the settlements of Coddington and Colwall, Oyster Hill is a terrific viewpoint for the Malvern Hills. It is easily accessed from the market town of Ledbury, which is connected by train to Hereford and Birmingham.

It is sometimes hiked in conjunction with Bradlow Knoll and neighbouring Frith Wood is a lovely place to explore, with wildflowers in spring and woodpeckers in the trees.
