Sant Cristòfol de Monteugues Hermitage

Highlight • Religious Site

Sant Cristòfol de Monteugues is a Romanesque hermitage that is between La Garriga and El Figaró (Vallès Oriental), near Tagamanent and Pla de la Calma. Belongs to the Valls del Figaró farmhouse.
It already existed safely in 1021, when it was documented in writing, and in 1139 it was assigned, as a suffragan church of the parish of Sant Esteve de la Garriga, in the monastery of Santa Maria de l'Estany.
The legend says it was built by Lluís I el Pietós (the son of Charlemagne) when he was going to conquer Barcelona; the emperor would have won a battle with the Saracens in a nearby place (Pla de la Batalla) and in commemoration he built the hermitage.
On the day of Sant Cristòfol (July 10) there was an assembly organized by the owners of the Valls farmhouse to which the hermitage belongs. Cars and horses were blessed by the rector of the town of Figaró, a mass was called and then a sting was made. During the Mass the Glorious Goigs of San Cristóbal were sung.

Alzina de Can Valls

Highlight • Natural Monument

A visit to the Can Valls oak, located at the top of a promontory within the Montseny natural park, offers a triple reward: to begin with, enjoy a pleasant walk following the so-called Camino de Vallcàrquera and then passing through the cross of Can Plans, always in a well-preserved forest environment; secondly, the privileged view of the Vallès plain and the Cingles de Bertí from a viewpoint at 780 meters above sea level; finally, an unusual tree due to its size (5.40 meters of trunk perimeter, the largest oak in Montseny), its advanced age (possibly 300 years) and its rounded silhouette, with ideal shade for shelter.

Figaró-Montmany

Highlight • Settlement

Figaró-Montmany is a municipality in Spain in the province of Barcelona, autonomous community of Catalonia, with an area of 15.07 km², a population of 1045 inhabitants and a population density of 69.34 hab/km².
catalunya.com/figaro-montmany-2-1-81347?language=es
The current municipality of Figaró-Montmany was called Montmany de Puiggraciós until 1981. The current name reflects more than the previous one that the demographic and administrative center of the term is in the town of Figaró, located at the bottom of the Congost valley.

The limits of the municipal term roughly reproduce those of the old jurisdictional territory of Montmany Castle or, if you wish, the lands of the three parishes that it encompassed: Sant Pau de Montmany, Sant Pere de Vallcàrquera and Sant Cristòfol de Monteugues . If we look at the old ecclesiastical territories, it is only necessary to say that the current parish of Figaró has lost the sector of Puiggraciós, which corresponded to the parish of Montmany and which joined after the last civil war to that of Ametlla del Vallès .

Iron Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

In 1848 the first step had been taken with the line between Mataró and Barcelona. The Iron Bridge was one of the most important communication nodes on this journey.
This iron bridge over the Congost River was built in the 19th century by the Compañía de Caminos de Hierro del Norte de España (NORTE) and is one of the very few ancient iron bridges that still exist.
It is on the Barcelona-Puigcerdá line (GE-French border).
