Old Railway Bridge of the Walldürn–Hardheim Line

The old bridge is a relic of the old Walldürn-Hardheim railway line. The approximately 4.5 km stretch between Hardheim and Höpfingen was special: with a maximum gradient of 22% and a minimum curve radius of 240 m, it was the second steepest standard gauge railway line in Germany with very tight curves. (I only guessed from the Hölltalbahn in the Black Forest). The line was closed in 1999 and dismantled in 2004.

As a child, I also found it interesting to watch the tank transport from the Hardheim barracks by rail. Only 2 V 60 diesel locomotives - one at the front and one at the back - managed to manage the gradient.
