La Revellata Peninsula

Highlight • Natural

THE MAQUIS SCENTED THE SEA…

It is at the gates of the beautiful city of Calvi that you can admire the Revellata peninsula, a rocky promontory lined with beaches and intimate and wild coves. Also, its spectacular cliffs represent a unique mineral element of Balagne.

More than a preserved space, the Revellata is above all a place of history as evidenced, for example, by the ruins of the house of Prince Pierre-Napoleon Bonaparte. Moreover, the first traces of human occupation even date back to the Neolithic period. Also, the dry stone walls that you will find on your way are proof of the peninsula's agricultural past as well.

A cape, a peninsula? yes, and a refuge too…

La Revellata is, moreover, a high place of biodiversity because of its rocky habitats which constitute a shelter for fauna and flora.

Indeed, maritime cliffs and rocky coasts are full of rare, endemic and protected plant species such as Armeria Soleirolii. Now take the time to look up at the sky. You will be able to admire the flight of the remarkable species that have found refuge in this site of great beauty. Ospreys, crested cormorants… and gulls will punctuate your walk in this preserved place. Until the 1960s, one of the last groups of monk seals in Corsica had even taken up residence in one of the caves. Calvais people have therefore nicknamed it “the cave of sea calves”.

Revellata Coastal Path

Highlight (Segment) • Other

The Revellata peninsula in front of Calvi. Hikes are very nice, but you should be there early because it gets hot, but it's even better to hike in spring when everything is in bloom.

At the end of the peninsula there is a lighthouse and below the lighthouse is a very nice diving area. But that's another story.

La Revellata Lighthouse

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the lighthouse you have a great view of Calvi and the Golfe de Calvi as well as the west side of the cape. On the east side below the lighthouse is a small harbor. This belongs to STARESO (Station de Recherche Océanographiques et sous-marines).

Calvi

Highlight • Monument

Calvi capital of Balagne is a beautiful port city, with its famous citadel overlooking the bay. From there, we have a very beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea, and of the highest peaks of Corsica such as Mount Cinto at 2,706 meters above sea level, which is often covered in snow.
