Cúber Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

Easiest access to the lake, directly from the parking lot. The Cubersee is always worth a detour. Whether for a demanding hike, for a leisurely tour of the lake or something in between. In addition, you sometimes meet donkeys, cows and the like.

View of Cúber Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The Cúber reservoir is the largest reservoir in Mallorca. It is at an altitude of 750 meters not far from Puig Major, the highest point on the island. Construction began in the 1960s. In 1972, together with Georg Blau a few kilometers to the north-east, the area on which there used to be a rural property was flooded. The reservoir was built between April 1970 and June 1971. In 2001, Cúber was declared a hunting ground.

The reservoir owes its name to an old property that existed before Muslim rule. After the conquest of Mallorca by King Jaume I, the district of Muntanyes was the part of the island that the king reserved for himself and divided among the participants in the conquest. The majority was awarded to the Prince of Portugal and his military. Included in this last group of lands was Cúber's property.

Puig de l'Ofre summit

Highlight • Summit

Was up there at the end of March, a day with a lot of wind and sun.
As soon as I was there, a griffon vulture unexpectedly came up about 50m away from the valley. When can you ever look at the back of a bird like that in flight? The climb is definitely worth it, the panorama is in a class of its own.

Puig de na Franquesa

Highlight • Summit

Na Franquesa is part of the three peaks of more than 1000 meters of the Tramuntana. At 1,067 meters high, it is the lowest on the route of three thousand. From these three peaks the views are very similar, because they are in a kind of circus.
