Wesenitz Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Currently closed according to the signs. However, the barrier that has been moved aside doesn't seem insurmountable to me. Nevertheless, you should use the signposted detour.

Wesenitz Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

The railway traffic over the almost 30 meter high and 150 meter long Wesenitz Viaduct has been closed since 2007, but you can drive over it with a draisine (provider Sachsendraisine).

A free day, which of course was put to good use right away...Sebastian, the hiking guide from Dürröhrsdorf, had scheduled another appointment and so I and a few other participants (7 in total) arrived punctually at the meeting point...himself a well-travelled guest from the Bielefeld area joined us and shouldn't be disappointed...because today's tour promised to be exciting with many …

A sunny morning 🌞 greeted me as I looked out of my 🪟 hotel room window, and this weather made me look forward to the tour planned for today into the Wesenitz valley.

The car had 🆓 a break, because this time I walked to Stolpen train station and took the 🚂 two stops to Dürrröhrsdorf.

Beautiful hike through the Wesenitz Valley from Dittersbach-Dürröhrsdorf (Saxon Switzerland)

The Wesenitz River has an elevation difference of 405 m from its source to its mouth and flows through the towns and communities of Pirna, Bischofswerda, Stolpen, Steinigtwolmsdorf, Neukirch/Lausitz, Schmölln-Putzkauf, Großhartau, Lohmen, and Dürrrohrsdorf-Ditterbach. In the Elbe Sandstone region, it flows through the Liebethaler Grund.
From the 15th to the …

Smaller hike in a larger group on a less frequently used section of the Wesenitz river. We were greeted and bid farewell by the cattle of Dürrröhrsdorf. 😉

With this dreary weather, getting going is particularly difficult, so we set off noticeably late for our obligatory weekend hike.

We start in Dittersbach and follow the trail marker 🔵 first through the village and later leisurely along the Wesenitz River to Helmsdorf. The castle... well, it's there. A bit of a shame, we think.
