Kornhus, Bad Münder

Highlight • Historical Site

Today's Kornhus dates back to the Weser Renaissance around 1550/1600.

The “Stone House” was one of the three stone houses of this time, alongside the manor house of the von Wettbergischen Burghof and the house of Tilemann Büsing am Steinhof, where today's Sparkasse Weserbergland is located. The “Stone House” was the storage building for grain, the grain magazine. Every city had to have a granary for times of emergency (e.g. sieges).

These houses usually contained a bakery, which still existed here in 1928. The first license granted for the “Stone House” dates back to 1924. It was operated as a wine bar and later as a cafe by Karl Jörren. In contrast to the inventory, the outer facade faces Marktstr. hardly changed over the centuries.

The Söltjerbrunnen in Bad Münder am Deister commemorates the long tradition of salt production in the town. The fountain was created in 1987 by the sculptor Bernd Maro and stands in front of the town hall on Marktstraße. It depicts two so-called "Söltjer", or salt workers, at work at a boiling pan. One collects the salt produced, the other transports it further in a basket. The figures illustrate the hard and strenuous work of salt production, which has been documented in Bad Münder since the year 1033. Today, the fountain is considered a symbol of the economic importance of salt and commemorates the historical development of the town as a salt and spa resort.

Petri-Pauli Church, Bad Münder

Highlight • Religious Site

A first church was probably built in the mid-10th century, when the village Münder was reclassified from the mission area of the monastery Fulda in the diocese of Minden. In 1440, the construction of a Gothic stone church with a massive defensive tower and belfry began. After destruction in the Hildesheim Stift feud (1519), the nave was repaired. The tower was rebuilt in its present form in 1528.

With the introduction of the Reformation in Münder the church was handed over in 1543 to the Protestant worship.

The roof of the church tower was redesigned during renovation work in 1751 baroque and received its present form. Due to insufficient capacity, the late medieval nave was aborted in 1839 and replaced under the direction of Springer architect Wedekind by a classicist new building, which was inaugurated in 1840. The current church is oriented to the north.
The gothic tower stopped. He was renovated in 2005 to 2009 in extensive construction under the direction of Constantin Anastasiou. Spectacular was the decrease (2005) and rebuilding (2008) of the tower helmet with the help of a crane. (Source WIKIPEDIA)

The most striking building in the lower spa park is the graduation tower built by the spa and tourist association in 1999 based on a historical model.
Salt production was one of the most important economic foundations in Bad Münder, as salt was essential for preserving food until the invention of refrigerators. With the closure of the graduation tower in 1925, this almost 1000-year history of salt production in Bad Münder ended.
Today the graduation tower serves "therapeutic purposes". Here you can really take a deep breath, because brine inhalation heals and protects the airways.
