Trans Pennine Trail – Altrincham Section

The Trans Pennine Trail is a 346km trail from Southport on the west coast across the Pennines to Hornsea on the east coast. It's designed to offer an exciting multi-user trail that generally follows rivers and canals and links up some of the towns and cities across the country. This means for runners any section will normally be fairly well surfaced, reasonably flat and car free. Bikes and horses are allowed to use most of it though, so you still need to watch out :-)
This section follows the course of an old railway line through an avenue of trees. It's a great place to run with a bit of shelter and a fast surface.

There is actually a better place to join. Ride down the hill and turn right past the school. Over the brook and right. Takes you to the canal and you don’t have to carry the bike. Sure steps rideable on a full sus but on hard tail or gravel bike this way on is better
