Pont Bethania car park (Watkin Path trailhead, Nant Gwynant)

Highlight • Rest Area

This car park (with toilets) is owned by the Snowdonia National Park Authority. Parking for the whole day costs £6.00, for up to 4 hours £3.00. This is not a large parking lot. In the summer period and on weekends you must arrive early to get a spot. The starting point of the Watkin path is about a hundred meters away.

Start of the Watkin Path

Highlight • Trail

There are many, many ways up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), though the Watkin Path is one of the six trails officially recognised by the national park authority. It's a quieter option than the routes from Llanberis and Pen y Pass and also one of the most strenuous. It was also the first public footpath in the UK when it was inaugurated in 1892 by Prime Minister William Gladstone.

The first part of the Watkin trail ascends gradually. A good start.

After a quarter of the way to the top of Snowdon via the Watkin path you will find the waterfalls of the Afon Cwm Llan. This is a wonderful place where you can relax, take a dip in the crystal clear pools or enjoy a picnic after a day of adventures.

Watkin Pools

Highlight • Waterfall

For those who dare to brave the (very) cold water on a sunny day, you can have some water fun here. Many hikers use only the first part of the Watkin Path to walk to these waterfalls and pools and then return.
