Charterhouse of Santa María de Montalegre
Highlight • Religious Site
Monastery dedicated to contemplation and prayer dating back to 1415 and belonging to the Order of the Charterhouse, also known as the Order of Sant Bru. Due to its eremitical monastic life, it does not carry out tourist visits, however it does receive visits for study or research purposes. Open mass is held in the outer chapel on Sundays and the Corpus Christi procession and Sant Bru celebrations are held in the cloister.
It is the only Catalan charterhouse that still preserves its community of monks. The access road is flanked by cypresses, a symbol of the joy and hospitality of its inhabitants.
