Firehole River

Highlight • River

This river is the main river in the area and many geysers and pools give their "sewage" to the Firehole River. He is also the meeting place of many fly fishermen.

Upper Geyser Hill Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Upper Geyser Hill Trail winds through the Upper Geyser Basin via paved paths and boardwalks, offering the best (and safest) views of many hydrothermal features. Home to the highest concentration of geysers in the world, it includes famous geysers like Old Faithful, Castle, Grand, Daisy, and Riverside. Visitors must exercise caution, as the thermal features can be dangerous, with even seemingly solid ground hiding scalding water beneath, so staying on boardwalks is extremely important.

Beehive Geyser

Highlight • Natural Monument

The 60m high geyser, named after a beehive, has a side exit announcing the right eruption of the Great Geyser.

Heart Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

Heart Spring was named by geologist George Marler in 1959 due to its heart-like shape. This clear blue pool in Yellowstone boasts vibrant orange and yellow thermophiles in its outwash channel, spans 7.5 feet by 10 feet at the surface, and is 15 feet deep. This heart is hot, with an average temperature of 184.8 fahrenheit. Like other hot springs in Yellowstone, Heart Spring is part of the park's hydrothermal system, where superheated water rises from underground, cooling as it reaches the surface. The thermophiles that thrive in these extreme temperatures create colorful patterns around the spring. Visitors must stay on designated paths to avoid burns.

Goggles Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

Goggles Spring is an irregular-shaped pool with water just below its thick rim, next to a shallower, cooler pool lined with orange and yellow cyanobacteria. Though the geyser rarely erupts, it produces a steady stream of water flowing 400 feet to the Firehole River.

Doublet Pool

Highlight • Natural Monument

Doublet Pool is actually two interconnected clear pools with deep vents at its center and shallow edges, bordered by raised, sawtooth-textured sinter. Though it has rarely erupted — most notably after the 1959 earthquake — the pool primarily exhibits bubbling and steaming activity. Doublet Pool's average temperature is 187.8°F (86.5°C), with a pH of 8.9, so like all pools and geysers in the area, it is best observed from a safe distance on the trails and boardwalks.

Old Faithful Geyser

Highlight • Natural Monument

Old Faithful is the most recognized name in all of Yellowstone National Park. This cone geyser erupts every 60 to 100 minutes and sprays water up to 185 feet in the air. Each eruption lasts between 2 to 5 minutes and can expel up to 8,000 gallons of water. The geyser is located just a short walk from the parking lot and is easily accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
