The Church of San Leopoldo in San Candido was built by the Franciscans between 1693 and 1697 and consecrated by the Prince-Bishop of Brixen that same year. It was designed by the Franciscan friar Vitus Rastpichler, who gave the church the simple and unpretentious character typical of the order—without a tower and without elaborate decorations. Inside, there is a high altar with a painting by Christoph Unterberger depicting Mary with the Infant Jesus and Saints Leopold and Francis. The Collegiate Church of San Candido (Italian: Collegiata di San Candido) was founded in the 8th century as part of the monastery initiated by Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria, which was intended to serve the Christianization of the local Slavs. Originally built as a Benedictine monastery, it was converted into a collegiate church in the 12th century.
The accessible crypt was originally used as the burial place of the collegiate patrons and housed their relics until 1969. It has housed a baptismal font since 1970. Following restorations from 1967 to 1970, the crypt once again exhibits its 13th-century Romanesque proportions. Of particular note is a Romanesque wooden sculpture of Saint Candidus.

Altötting Chapel and the Holy Sepulchre
