Historic Pillory in Sauerland

Highlight • Historical Site

An old pillory with an information board. This is where the expression "to put someone in the pillory" takes shape.

Butten Tower, Obermarsberg

Highlight • Monument

There were a total of seven fortress towers along the historic Marsberg city wall. From the partially preserved Buttenturm on the 400 meter high mountain plateau you have a wonderful view of the Diemeltal.

Draken Caves, Obermarsberg

Highlight • Cave

There are several legends about the Drakenhöhle. Apparently Siegfried is said to have defeated the dragon Fafnir here and then bathed in his blood. Whether that actually happened here in Marsberg remains to be seen - there are several caves in Germany that lay claim to this story. Anyway, maybe another dragon has just guarded a valuable treasure here. ;)

We've been wanting to go for a run near Obermarsberg for a while. Today was a perfect day. As has often been the case, the tour didn't look all that spectacular when we planned it with Komoot. Once we got there, we were usually amazed at how beautiful the trails and landscape actually are! And today was no different. Truly …

Except for the relatively steep ascent to Obermarsberg, this is an easy panoramic hike. Marking mostly Sauerland forest route.

It was a very icy wind.
The tour was very nice.

Started in Marsberg at the train station, we went through the town up to the Drakenhöhle and then further up to Obermarsberg on pathes!
There was a lot of history and tales of knights and 🐲 all along the way
Gnarled trees and slate rock accompanied us on the way.
At the top we saw many historical buildings of all …
