Bridge over the Doubs near Bief

Highlight • Other

A beautiful iron bridge over the Doubs. I don't recommend driving on the D437, as some drivers practically use it as a "race track," and the shoulder is very narrow in places.

Two rocks clash to form an arch of geological curiosity. A must see.

Notre-Dame-du-Mont Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

Many churches in France, including this chapel, are dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the widely used title "Notre-Dame" (in German: "Our Dear Lady"). A brief thought on the Mother of God from Albino Luciani (Pope John Paul I):
"Mary is indeed our sister, as Saint Ambrose says. She led a life very similar to ours. It is of course beautiful to venerate Mary as the Virgin and Mother of God, as the one conceived immaculately by original sin and taken up into heaven; but she is also the Madonna of plates, brooms and cooking pots..."
Every visitor to this small Marian shrine can decide for themselves which "Notre-Dame" they would like to venerate here.

Saint-Hippolyte

Highlight • Other

This small rural town is located at the foot of the northern end of the Jura massif. It is located exactly in what is called the Franche-montagne, a small region located between the Doubs and Dessoubre valleys.

Wonderful paths... first along the Doubs, mostly a wide road under trees, then steep and narrow up to the rocks - great! - then meadows at the top and then a narrow path up the cave and the Arc and the whole way up on/next to the rocky edge high above the Doubs back again.
Then stop for coffee in …

A very nice loop over the rocks above the Doubs to the Grotte du Bisontin. Definitely worth seeing when the cascades have dried up. The rain tonight wasn't enough. At the height near Lebvillers we observed a herd of wild mouflons. We were traveling completely alone
