Monument to General De Wet

Highlight • Monument

In 1915 Helene Kröller-Müller commissioned the sculptor Joseph Mendes da Costa to create a monument to the South African General De Wet, a personal friend of the Kröller-Müller couple and general during the Boer War at the end of the 19th century. In South Africa in 1921 the statue was placed on the Otterlose Zand set up. The artwork can be seen from afar and is close to the bike path. With his left hand on his heart and his right clenched, General De Wet gazes across the drifting sands towards South Africa. Not for nothing, because the landscape is reminiscent of South Africa. Two faces are shown eight times in the base of the monument, including those of the farmers' presidents Paul Kruger and Martinus Steyn.

The President Steynpark with the President Steynbank is a memorial for President of the Orange Free State in South Africa, Marthinus Theunis Steyn. Helene Kröller-Müller commissioned its construction in 1923, and Henry van de Velde designed the park and bench, unveiled in 1924.

May 17, 2022,🇳🇱Nationalpark Hoge Veluwe▪️Runde von Otterlo
Day eleven:
Today we have taken on a highlight of our holiday region, the national park "De Hoge Veluwe".
Tip: Start/finish: Free parking on Hoenderloseweg at a sports field behind Otterlo.
The national park "De Hoge Veluwe" offers a varied landscape with forest, heath, sand and moor areas.
The park was created when the rich businessman A. Kröller and his …

Tour through the De Hoge Veluwe National Park. The park offers a mostly barren landscape with wide heaths, pine forests and sand dunes. A bit like southern heathland with concrete paths or over the TrpÜbPl😉. As easy as cycling on the paths is, I prefer our forest and field paths in the long run.
In the middle of the park …

Total 60 km.
It was worth the €11.30. Park de Hoge Veluwe is beautiful. Beautiful views over the heath, meandering through the trees, up, down, butterfly guidance for minutes, the traces of the rooting of the boars, birds of prey etc and because I asked the park was almost "for me alone". .
Too much to mention...now enjoy the afterglow …

Cycling through the Hoge Veluwe National Park

Hoge Veluwe has been on my bucket list for a long time. And what can I say, rightly so!
Birch and pine forests alternated with heathlands and dunes. The cycle paths were all well developed and maintained (no wonder, we are in the Netherlands after all). The white rental bikes are included in …

Hello everyone 🙂

Short vacation with our neighbors in the Netherlands and the best weather ☀️ for a bike tour through the De Hoge Veluwe National Park.

I wouldn't have thought that it would be almost 50km. Especially because my last bike tour was decades ago. The entrance that was missed at first also brought some distance... 🙈😅

Today is our first tour with our new trailer hitch and bike rack.
So, off to our Dutch neighbors in Arnhem, in the Hoge Veluwe National Park.
A beautiful tour in great cycling weather, crisscrossing the national park.
There are many different terrains here. Sometimes you're in the steppe, then in the desert, and then again in a beautiful forest.

On our long-distance tour through the Netherlands in August/September, we visited the Hoge Veluwe National Park again. We were absolutely captivated by the diverse landscape of the original Veluwe region. The various landscape types are home to a variety of plant and animal species. A network of more than 40 kilometers of cycle paths runs through the entire park.

Before heading home, a round through the national park. It costs €11 but is worth it. Again 🙂 wonderful scenery. Beautiful hunting lodge and animal kingdom park (deer, wild boar, muffins and also the wolf are here)
Unfortunately, none of the animals showed up to us ☹️. Imposing the 1800 !! white bicycles that you can use free of charge …
