Glen Brier Hotel

Highlight • Pub

Conon Bridge is a small village in the Highland region of Scotland. The current Gaelic name is likely a neologism: the bridge was not built until the early 19th century and some early gravestones show the name sgudal or scuddle. One suggested source is the Old Norse "sku dal", valley of the fine views.

Fortrose Cathedral Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

Standing in a grassy square at the heart of Fortrose, the atmospheric ruins of Fortrose Cathedral date back to the 1300s, although the diocese of Ross is thought to have existed since around 700.

Only a small portion of the original building still stands, but the delicate stone vaulting and remains of some window tracery are still clearly visible.

Markie Burn Waterfalls

Highlight • Viewpoint

It's worth getting off your bike to visit these picturesque waterfalls. The Markie Burn is surrounded by deciduous woodland straight from the pages of a fairytale. As you wonder through the Rosemarkie glen, look out for fulmars and jackdaws who like to nest here, especially in spring.

The burn is made up of deep pools, rapids and waterfalls. There's a path running along beside it, but it's not suitable for bikes.
