Ascent to Klingelfloß Shelter

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Hut

This is the steepest part of the dream ring Klingelfloß and leads along a stream along quite steeply up to the refuge Klingelfloß. The path is well worn and some places require good footwear or at least patience.

Ore mine (barred)

Highlight • Cave

I walked past it a whopping 55 times before, on the 56th attempt and with minimal February vegetation, I noticed the gate off the path.

The tunnel entrance is very low and secured with a padlock.

Exploration 11/22:
Actually, only the entrance is a bit low. After that, it's easy to descend 60 meters into the mountain, slightly crouching.

After 40 meters, a small mining chamber branches off to the left, followed by a shaft leading vertically down about 10 meters. Roughly estimated, it's about 6 meters. With an opening of about 1x1 meters, a misstep would be impossible to catch and could cause significant damage.

It's quite possible that there's a side branch in the remaining 10 meters, and there's definitely a tunnel leading off to the side at the bottom of the shaft.

This largely unknown tunnel is one of the sites of the Wellmich-Werlau vein train, which includes, for example, the Werlau shaft komoot.de/highlight/1371659, the Gustav shaft komoot.de/highlight/3100074 and the Camilla mine komoot.de/highlight/1099786 and which ends not far from the Eid mine on the Geierberg near Alterkülz de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grube_Eid.

Rest Area at the Five-Trunk Beech

Highlight • Natural Monument

This dream bow is a nice tour that is pleasant to walk and puts you in a good mood. Less spectacular than others but gently beautiful.

Napoleon firs

Highlight • Natural Monument

According to legend, the over 200-year-old fir trees are said to have offered shelter to Napoleon's army during a thunderstorm.
Another derivation of the name assumes that spear shafts for the Napoleonic army were made from the young silver firs.
Declared natural monuments in 1970.
Please note: The Napoleon firs are located a bit deeper in the forest (approx. 10-20 meters), so not directly at the edge of the path. The three fir trees are easy to recognize by the natural monument plaques and the towering, branchless trunks with almost 3 meters in circumference and the dense conical crown.

Former Klingelfloß shelter

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The former lumberjack shelter offers a small pond next to several seats and invites you to linger.

Old Quarry

Highlight • Structure

Not far from the forest worker hut Klingelfloß, an area cut leads to an old quarry. Here you can look at the folded tectonic layers of the shale.

Small pond

Highlight • Lake

Somewhat dilapidated and ingrown pond that slowly becomes swampy with leaves and dead wood.
Be careful on the bank, it's just loose leaves and you can sink in!
