The origins of this idyllic and busy chapel of Our Lady of the Holy Oak on the Proosbroekweg go back many centuries. There are different versions of the legend, but according to the legend that Petrus Vladderaccus wrote down in a notebook in the early 17th century, a statue of Mary with child was found on the sand in the Beerze river in the early 15th century. This statue was placed in an oak tree and venerated by farmers and shepherds. The statue was then brought to Oirschot and a primitive wooden chapel was built on site.
