A fantastic view at the top. Making it well worth the effort getting there

Great Hill Summit Shelter

Highlight • Natural Monument

Part of the West Pennine Moors, so plenty bog around, well pathed from white coppice and over spitlers edge. One of my favorite local hills. Views over to Darwen Tower (aka The Rocket) as well as Winter Hill and Rivington Pike. Can be approached from a few different directions. Nice summit shelter for a brew and lunch!

The section of the walk known as The Goit is a quadmire after heavy rain (even in summer months), so be prepared!

Lower Rivington Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

Lower Rivington Reservoir is at the end of the Rivington chain of reservoirs in Lancashire, England, with Upper Rivington Reservoir to the north, and Rivington Water Treatment Works to the south. The Rivington chain primarily supplies 70,000 households in the Wigan area. The chain was built to supply Liverpool.

Liverpool Castle Replica Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

William Lever built a folly which is a scale replica of Liverpool Castle. Building started in 1912 and the replica, which was not completed, was based on a conjectural reconstruction of the castle prepared by E. W. Cox in 1892.
