Zwarte Kaat, ‘the witch of Hellenende’, plundered farms and churches with her henchmen at the end of the sixteenth century. Her gang also attacked traveling salesmen. No one was safe in this region. With her raven-black hair and ugly crooked nose, she left a trail of destruction behind her.
