Westhumble Archway

Highlight • Structure

The hamlet of Westhumble is a peaceful place that has plenty to offer walkers. The Mole Trail, a 7-mile ( 11 km) route between Leatherhead and Dorking that follows the River Mole on its journey through the North Downs, runs through the hamlet. Its train station is also a good starting point for hikes up onto the popular and panoramic Box Hill.

Start of Box Hill Climb

Highlight • Trail

There are at least 4 different ways to reach Box Hilltop, but this is the most scenic. Don't forget to look back to admire the zig zag road.

Headley Lane

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

A great alternative to Box Hill in both directions, especially at the weekend when Box can be very busy. Undulating all the way, but very quiet and mostly car-free.

Destination Bike Box Hill

Highlight • Cafe

A lovely little cycling cafe down the slope from the famous boxhill climb. Better coffee and more cycle friendly then the tourist cafe at the top.

View from Box Hill

Highlight • Viewpoint

Box Hill is one of the most famous hills in Surrey, if not the UK. Named after the ancient box woodland on its slopes, the hill is blanketed in green and enjoys panoramic viewpoints over the surrounding countryside and Dorking.

Box Hill has become more and more popular with cyclists after it featured in the 2012 Olympics cycling road race events. Around 850,000 people now visit the hill each year. Managed by the National Trust, you can follow in the pedal strokes of Olympians and ride the Box Hill circuit that climbs up to 390 feet (120 meters), although the hill's highest point is 735 feet (224 meters) at Betchworth Clumps.

Box Hill Café

Highlight • Rest Area

The cafe at the top of Box Hill is a great place to start a run or plan a stop. Buying a drink here helps support conservation and maintenance of the area, including the trails. The cafe serves a good selection of hot and cold food, drinks, cake and ice-creams. It gets busy but there's plenty of seating inside and out.
Open 10am to 4pm every day.
